Kareena Kapoor Khan’s new campaign for Ritu Kumar Couture 2026 feels especially well matched because the story begins before the clothes do. There is a personal history between Kareena and the house, and this campaign uses that connection without turning it into nostalgia.
Years ago, Ritu Kumar restored a family heirloom for Kareena’s wedding, a garment that had belonged to the Begum of Bhopal and was later worn by Sharmila Tagore. Kareena has described that history as deeply personal, which gives this new collaboration a sense of continuity rather than making it feel like another seasonal celebrity campaign.
Rajasthan Sets the Tone
The collection, designed by Amrish Kumar, draws strongly from Indian architecture, textiles and archival craft, with Rajasthan providing one of its clearest visual anchors. The standout Jaisalmer Jacket and Skirt takes inspiration from the architectural heritage of Rajasthan and translates traditional block print references into a fitted jacket and pencil skirt. The piece is finished with aari, tikki and zardozi embroidery and reportedly required more than 600 hours of artisanal work.
What makes the look interesting is the way all that craft is held inside a very disciplined silhouette. The embroidery is elaborate, but the shape is clean, almost severe. That contrast gives the outfit its edge and keeps it from feeling overly ceremonial.
The Collection Travels Beyond Jaisalmer
Rajasthan may set the mood, but the collection looks across a broader map of Indian craft. Other looks reference Kutch mirror work, Farrukhabad block prints, Jamawar textiles, Persian florals, Mughal paisleys and phulkari inspired embroidery, creating a layered visual language that feels archival without being static.
One of the strongest examples is a structured mirror work jacket layered over a softer base. The geometry of the surface keeps the look sharp, while the movement underneath stops it from becoming too rigid. Elsewhere, a printed silk organza sari combines Jamawar and floral references with a corset, shifting familiar textile ideas into a more contemporary frame.
The Mehroz Look Brings More Drama
The black and rust Mehroz bodysuit with a long silk organza cape takes the collection in a more theatrical direction. The bodysuit stays close to the body, while the cape introduces movement through Persian floral jaals, Mughal paisleys and intricate appliqué work.
The contrast between the fitted base and the fluid outer layer is what gives this look its presence. It feels less traditional in shape, but the surface treatment keeps it closely connected to the rest of the collection.
Archival Motifs Meet Denim
Another look pairs a gold Rajwadi blouse and richly worked jacket with handcrafted denim, and this is where the collection feels especially current. The denim carries zardozi patchwork, while the jacket uses traditional embroidery techniques such as nakshi, kasab and tikki. One of the motifs was drawn from an old sherwani in the Ritu Kumar archive.
This is probably one of the clearest examples of what the collection is trying to do. It is not treating the archive as something precious and untouchable. It is pulling details out of it and placing them into silhouettes that feel more relaxed and unexpected.
Kareena Keeps the Clothes From Feeling Too Precious
Styled by Rhea Kapoor, Kareena moves through the campaign with very little fuss around the clothes. The jewellery is present but controlled, allowing the embroidery, texture and proportions to remain the focus.
That restraint matters. These are highly worked pieces, and too much styling could easily have tipped them into costume. Instead, Kareena’s ease gives the clothes a modern rhythm. She wears the couture rather than letting the couture wear her.
