The teaser of Nayyi Navelli is here, and it knows exactly how much to reveal and how much to hold back.
Yami Gautam stars as Mohini, a newly married woman who appears to bring calm and order into a chaotic Meerut household. On the surface, she is the picture perfect new bride. Then her brother in law decides something is not quite right and announces to the family that she may actually be a daayan. That is where the teaser stops feeling like a domestic comedy and starts leaning into fantasy, folklore and something much stranger.
A Bride Who Is Clearly Hiding Something
Yami’s look is deliberately familiar at first. Dressed in a red sari with traditional jewellery, she fits neatly into the image of the ideal new bride. But the teaser quickly begins to disturb that image.
There are flashes of unexplained events, a trident in her hand, the presence of a Ravan effigy and a growing sense that Mohini may know far more about the supernatural than anyone around her. Then comes the line that instantly changes the mood, when she casually talks about eating “chudail pishach” for breakfast. It is funny, strange and just unsettling enough to make you question exactly what kind of character we are dealing with.
The Mystery Is the Best Part
The teaser’s smartest move is that it does not rush to answer the obvious question.
Is Mohini really a daayan? Is the brother in law completely right? Or is the film setting us up for something very different?
The images point towards supernatural powers, but there is also a playful tone running underneath the tension. That combination suggests Nayyi Navelli may be less interested in straightforward horror and more interested in using fantasy, family chaos and folklore together. The makers themselves are positioning it as a fantasy family entertainer, which fits the slightly mischievous energy of the teaser.
Dussehra Gives the Story Another Layer
The film is scheduled to release on October 16, 2026, around Dussehra, and that timing feels deliberate.
With the Ravan imagery already appearing in the teaser, the festival naturally adds a good versus evil reading to the story. The more interesting possibility, though, is that the film may complicate that idea. If Mohini possesses supernatural powers, the real question may not simply be whether she is good or evil, but what exactly she is fighting.
That is where the teaser becomes more intriguing than its “bhabhi is a daayan” setup initially suggests.
Yami Gautam Looks Like the Right Choice
Yami works well in the teaser because she can switch between warmth and mystery without making either feel forced. One moment she looks completely at home as the new bride, and the next there is something in her expression that makes you wonder whether everyone else in the house should be worried.
The teaser does not ask her to go over the top, and that restraint helps the mystery.
Directed by Balaji Mohan, with Aanand L. Rai and Himanshu Sharma among the producers, Nayyi Navelli appears to be aiming for an unusual mix of family entertainment, humour and supernatural storytelling.
The Teaser Does Its Job
The teaser does not give us enough to understand the full mythology of the film, and that is probably a good thing. It gives us a suspicious brother in law, a bride who may not be what she seems, supernatural hints and just enough Dussehra symbolism to start forming theories.
For now, the biggest question remains the simplest one.
Daayan hai, Devi hai, ya kuch aur?
