She is a veritable unknown outside of France, but after these photographs of her at the NRJ Music Awards 2012 make their way across the world, we have a premonition that Shy’m will be getting a little more attention on the global front. Arriving at the Palais des Festivals et des Congres in Cannes, France on 28 January, the 26-year-old singer’s shockingly provocative outfit made jaws drop.
The Outfit
Shy’m wore a plastic corset which was completely transparent and hugged her figure like it had been moulded especially for her curves. A sheath of what appeared to be tinsel-type material gave the plastic a frosted look, also serving to afford her just the slightest hint of cover without which this dress would have bordered on vulgar.
Leaving nothing to the imagination, the corset was paired with a white sheet that had been tied around her waist like a toga and trailed to the flooe, leaving a large slit that left almost her full legs bare. The toga-like skirt is an inspired touch as it gives the outfit a Grecian effect, playing up to the goddess-like aura that she was already exuding. The only jewelry she wore was a silver bracelet that tied the look together. Dark eye makeup, blush, and a slash of red on her lips gave this stunner’s look the finishing touches.
The Hair
Here’s a pretty unique do that we haven’t seen before. It actually combines three different hairstyles to create a totally new one that would look weird on anyone else but is absolutely perfect for this particular red carpet look. The front of her hair was dyed brown and done in retro-like waves.
The rest of her long black hair was first tied back in a sleek top knot, and then done in a long ponytail interspersed at regular intervals with rubber-bands so as to create a pleated look without actually being in a braid. That ponytail, by the way, is no ordinary affair. It falls to well below her knees and makes her look like an exotic creature of myth and legend.
This is one of those red carpet looks that will be talked about for years to come. It is bold to the extreme and very innovative. Everything from her hair and makeup to her dress has been painstakingly and meticulously created and adorned like a gifted artist’s statue. Brilliant!
Get The Look
This look is definitely not for everyone. You have to have a well-toned body and super-duper levels of confidence to pull this kind of look off. If you’re planning on wearing something that is going to show your body off to the world, you first have to have a body worth showing off. But more than that, you have to have the courage to put yourself up on display. We’re not even talking about the flesh here. It’s more about your pride in yourself as a woman, and being able to portray your whole being in this kind of ensemble. That’s not easy to do because it can make you feel vulnerable.
Make sure you plan a look like this weeks in advance so you can iron out all the discrepancies. Looks like this don’t put themselves together overnight.
