After Hollywood, it’s time for the music industry to shine on the red carpet, well, the white carpet to be more accurate, at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 20.
Modern-day Princess Gowns
Carly Rae Jespen
Carly Rae Jespen chose to go with one of the biggest trends of the year – nude.
It’s amazing how such a simple idea can look so sensational. She styled her floor-sweeping nude gown with red lips and blunt bangs cut into her black hair, adding a touch of red carpet glamor with a diamond-encrusted white clutch purse and a diamond-encrusted cocktail ring with an emerald in the center.
Carrie Underwood in Oscar de la Renta
Carrie Underwood chose the drama and flamboyance of a rose and silver Oscar de la Renta Fall 2012 tulle draped gown.
She took her modern-day princess look to a whole other level with her sapphire and crystal encrusted clutch purse and silver open-toed heels, both also by Oscar de la Renta.
Carrie makes as strong an impression in this dress as did the model who debuted this on the ramp at New York Fashion Week – remember how the audience gasped?
Katy Perry in Blumarine
Katy Perry’s new hair color – a deep shade of goth purple – probably inspired her wardrobe choice for the awards show.
She donned a Blumarine Fall 2012 metallic lilac gown with a sequin-embellished dropped-waist and a floor-sweeping chiffon skirt which was also slightly sparkly. The deep purple lip color she wore seemed a tad heavy for this light spring dress, but we’ll give her a free pass on this one.
Thigh-high Split Gowns
Mayra Veronica’s generous assets were poured into a fitted, floor-length silver gown with a thigh-high slit and a low neckline that could barely contain her curves, finishing off with dangle earrings, black peep-toe heels and sleek, straight brown hair left loose and long.
She’s done a marvelous job of taking this look as far as it can go without getting trashy.
Monica was classy in her all-white dress with the peek-a-boo slit on the bodice and a thigh-high split that put her animal-print heels as well as her ankle tattoo in the limelight.
We love how she’s so sophisticated but still projects her wild streak with that display of leg.
Sheer Lace Creations
Natasha Bedingfield took our breath away in this sheer lace teal outfit with lace and sequined embroidery on the body of the dress giving way to a sheer, flowy skirt, wearing a white bodysuit underneath to cover her modesty.
She looks fresh and ethereal, like a creature of the sea rising out from the waves.
Taylor Swift in Elie Saab
Taylor Swift is starting to wear more mature fashions on the red carpet and off. The Elie Saab Pre-Fall 2012 coral red gown she wore featured a lace bodice and a flowy skirt.
She accessorized the dress with jewelry by Neil Lane and shoes by Elie Saab. Surprisingly, the sparkle-loving singer went without any glitter anywhere on her ensemble, more evidence of a developing fashion sense.
