At Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2027, denim stopped behaving like denim.
Across the collection, jeans were treated almost like jewellery surfaces, covered in crystals, brooch-like embellishments, floral appliqué, metallic charms, embroidery, lace panels and deliberately distressed details. The effect was rich, tactile and unmistakably maximalist, but what made it interesting was how differently each pair was styled.
Denim as a Surface for Decoration
Some of the strongest jeans were scattered with colourful jewel-like motifs from hip to hem, giving basic blue denim the feel of an embellished evening piece.
Others leaned into a more worn-in mood, with heavy distressing, ripped knees and frayed patches offset by glittering stones and decorative metalwork. That contrast between damaged denim and precious embellishment gave the looks much of their character.
One pair pushed that idea further with safety pins worked directly into the jeans, almost as if the denim had been repaired in plain sight. Instead of hiding the construction, the pins became part of the decoration, sitting alongside crystal details and a heavily embellished belt.
Lace and Denim Made the Strongest Contrast
The styling repeatedly paired denim with lace, lingerie and delicate white blouses.
One look teamed jeans with large black lace inserts running down the legs, matched with a black lace bralette. Another paired heavily decorated denim with a cropped white crochet jacket, layered necklaces and oversized jewellery.
A softer look used a white lace blouse with relaxed jeans covered in ornate gold-toned appliqué, while another combined a jewel-covered denim jacket with a white lace dress underneath.
These combinations kept the denim from feeling too casual and gave the collection a strong tension between roughness and refinement.
Menswear Followed the Same Decorative Logic
The menswear was equally expressive.
A sheer floral blouse was paired with dark distressed jeans covered in dangling gold charms and small metallic details, finished with a large statement belt.
It was the same idea seen throughout the denim story: familiar jeans made richer through surface treatment and unexpected styling.
Denim, But Never Basic
What worked about the SS27 denim was the confidence of the excess.
The jeans were ripped, pinned, embroidered, jewelled and layered with lace, yet the looks still felt coherent because the styling stayed rooted in classic Dolce & Gabbana codes.
For Spring/Summer 2027, denim was not the casual part of the wardrobe. It was the statement piece.
