Some designers follow fashion trends. Others create a style that remains relevant for generations. Ralph Lauren has spent nearly six decades doing the latter, and his latest CFDA honour is another reminder of his enduring influence on American fashion.
The legendary designer was named American Menswear Designer of the Year at the 2026 CFDA Fashion Awards, held on November 2 at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
This marks Lauren’s third victory in the category, following previous wins in 1996 and 2007.
A Remarkable Fashion Legacy

The award was presented by actor Matt Damon and designer Tremaine Emory, recognising Lauren’s continued contribution to contemporary menswear.
At 87, Lauren remains one of the most influential figures in American fashion, having built a global lifestyle empire around his distinctive interpretation of classic American style.
From impeccably tailored suits and sophisticated eveningwear to iconic polo shirts and relaxed sportswear, his designs have consistently balanced luxury with everyday wearability.
What makes Lauren’s career particularly remarkable is his ability to maintain a recognisable design identity while adapting to changing generations of customers.
A Big Night for American Fashion
Lauren was nominated alongside Thom Browne, Todd Snyder, Willy Chavarria, and Public School designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne.
The ceremony, hosted by Keke Palmer, also saw Rachel Scott of Diotima win American Womenswear Designer of the Year, while Anthony Vaccarello received the International Designer of the Year honour.
For Ralph Lauren, the latest recognition adds another prestigious chapter to an extraordinary career.
Nearly sixty years after launching his label in 1967, the designer continues to demonstrate that timeless style never really goes out of fashion.
