The Central government recently offered Intellectual Property Rights, IPR to Paithani sarees. The Pratishthan Weavers Association of Aurangabad would acquire an official patent.
The Paithani sarees from Aurangabad, in the state of Maharashtra, are handloom products that spell tradition and culture. They are well known for their royal feel and exotic designs.
Imitation of this product in various parts of the country is making it difficult for the weavers to earn their livelihood and also for the consumers to identify the original ones from the fake. Also, a patent tag attached saree may fetch best possible price to the weavers in the domestic as well as international market.
