Dior Is Taking Its Cruise 2028 Show to Shanghai

Dior is already looking ahead to its next big destination moment.

The French house will stage its Cruise 2028 collection in Shanghai, continuing the tradition of taking its resort shows far beyond Paris and using each city as part of the collection’s wider story. The move also marks another important chapter for Jonathan Anderson, who is now shaping Dior across womenswear, menswear and haute couture.

From Los Angeles to Shanghai

The announcement follows Anderson’s Cruise 2027 presentation in Los Angeles, staged at the David Geffen Galleries at LACMA in May 2026.

That show was his first Dior cruise collection and set a very specific tone for his approach to the house. Rather than building a huge fantasy set, Anderson worked with the architecture already around him, letting the museum and the clothes share the spotlight.

Shanghai now gives him an entirely different visual and cultural setting to work with.

That contrast is what makes the next stop interesting.

Dior’s cruise shows have never been treated like simple calendar presentations. Over the years, they have moved through places including Marrakech, Athens, Seville, Mexico City, Scotland, Rome and Los Angeles, often drawing on local craft, architecture and cultural references in the process.

Shanghai Is a Strategic Choice Too

There is also a business layer to the decision.

China remains one of the world’s most important luxury markets, and Shanghai is one of the strongest fashion and retail centres in the region. Dior already has a significant retail footprint in the city, including boutiques at Plaza 66, IFC and Taikoo Li Qiantan.

So bringing Cruise 2028 to Shanghai is not only about finding a dramatic location.

It places the house directly in front of one of its most important audiences at a time when luxury brands are working harder to create deeper cultural and experiential connections with customers in Asia.

Another Test for Jonathan Anderson’s Dior

Anderson’s Dior is still relatively new, but the direction is becoming clearer.

His Cruise 2027 show suggested a preference for sharper editing, more architectural presentation and a less obvious version of fashion spectacle. Shanghai will be the next chance to see whether that restraint continues or whether the house takes the opportunity to go bigger.

The city gives him plenty to work with.

Shanghai can be hyper modern, historic, cinematic and intensely graphic all at once. That makes it an unusually flexible backdrop for a designer who likes tension between craft, culture and contemporary design.

What We Know So Far

Dior has confirmed Shanghai as the destination for Cruise 2028, while the exact venue and full creative concept have not yet been revealed publicly in the material currently available.

That means the most interesting details are still to come.

Will Anderson look at Shanghai through architecture? Craft? Cinema? Contemporary art?

Or will he do something more unexpected and avoid the obvious references altogether?
