Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal stepped onto the runway together for Manish Malhotra’s Mijwan showcase in Mumbai on September 26, closing the evening as showstoppers in two very different interpretations of Indian occasion wear. The event marked 15 years of Malhotra’s association with the Mijwan Welfare Society, with chikankari and intricate threadwork at the heart of the collection.
Alia Bhatt in Ivory Chikankari
Alia wore an elaborate ivory chikankari ensemble with a distinctly bridal mood.
Her look paired a sculpted skirt with a cropped bralette-style blouse, while an embroidered pallu was draped over the head like a veil. Floral embroidery, fine chikankari and subtle sequin work added texture without disturbing the monochrome palette.
The styling stayed refined. Her hair was pulled back into a neat bun, while the makeup remained soft with lightly defined eyes, contoured cheeks and a nude lip. Traditional jewellery, including a kaan chain and haathphool, added a more ceremonial finish.
Vicky Kaushal in Midnight Blue
Vicky provided the contrast in a midnight-blue bandhgala jacket layered over an ivory kurta and trousers.
The jacket carried detailed chikankari work, allowing the craft to remain visible while giving the look a darker, more formal tone. Against Alia’s all-ivory ensemble, the deep blue created a strong visual balance on the runway.
The pairing worked especially well because the two looks spoke the same craft language without appearing coordinated in an obvious way.
For a show built around Mijwan’s embroidery tradition, Alia and Vicky closed the evening with exactly the right mix of couture polish and Indian craftsmanship.
