Mumbai has a beautiful new address for book lovers, creative minds and anyone who enjoys spending an afternoon surrounded by good stories, great food and inspiring conversations.
The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) has unveiled The Library, an elegant new cultural space that brings together literature, art, dining and community experiences under one roof.
Inaugurated by Nita Ambani on October 31, 2026, the venue officially opened to the public on November 1 at NMACC in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex.
And this is certainly not your conventional library!
A Library with Over 4,500 Books and Plenty of Character

At the heart of the new space is an eclectic collection of more than 4,500 books, spanning English and regional languages.
The shelves offer everything from fiction and contemporary literature to art, fashion, photography, architecture, design, history and food. Graphic novels and illustrated editions also find their place in the collection, making it an interesting destination for readers with different tastes.

But what makes The Library particularly appealing is the experience built around the books.
Rather than encouraging visitors to simply pick up a title and leave, the space invites them to settle in, explore the shelves, enjoy a conversation or spend a leisurely afternoon discovering something new.
It’s a refreshing approach to reading, especially in a city where finding a quiet corner can sometimes feel like a luxury.
Inside The Library’s Beautifully Designed Interiors

The interiors are every bit as interesting as the concept.
Think soaring bookshelves, warm wooden panelling, elegant chandeliers, comfortable seating and a striking spiral staircase connecting the different levels.

An indoor banyan tree introduces an unexpected natural element, while a skylight fills the space with daylight.
The multi-level layout includes intimate reading corners, a café, dining areas and a mezzanine lined with books. Photographs documenting Mumbai’s changing cityscape add a local cultural touch.
There is also a dedicated space for readings, discussions and performances, allowing the venue to function as more than a beautifully designed bookstore.
It’s the sort of place where you could easily lose track of time browsing books before settling down for coffee.
From Morning Coffee to Evening Conversations

Food is an important part of The Library’s identity.
Visitors can enjoy a thoughtfully curated culinary experience throughout the day, beginning with breakfast and continuing through lunch, afternoon refreshments and evening drinks.
The combination of reading and dining gives the venue the atmosphere of a contemporary cultural café, where a quick visit could turn into an unexpectedly long afternoon.
Books are also available for purchase, so visitors can take their literary discoveries home.
Nita Ambani Celebrates the Launch with Bollywood Celebrities

The opening celebration brought together several familiar faces from Mumbai’s entertainment and fashion circles.
Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan, Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput, Kajol, Rajkummar Rao, Sonali Bendre, Manish Malhotra, Soha Ali Khan and Isha Ambani were among those attending the launch.
Nita Ambani welcomed guests and spoke about the importance of bringing the joy of reading back to younger generations.
The occasion also highlighted NMACC’s growing ambition to create experiences that bring people together through different forms of art and culture.
More Than Books: Workshops, Readings and Cultural Events

The Library also plans to host a changing calendar of literary and creative activities.
Visitors can look forward to book clubs, storytelling sessions, poetry readings, author conversations, creative workshops and family-friendly programmes.
The opening programme includes an Amar Chitra Katha session with actor Rana Daggubati, along with upcoming events exploring comics, language, storytelling and contemporary culture.

By combining these activities with dining and an inviting reading environment, The Library hopes to make literature a more social and accessible experience.
With its beautiful interiors, varied book collection and emphasis on shared cultural experiences, The Library at NMACC adds an interesting new dimension to Mumbai’s creative landscape.
Whether you’re a dedicated reader, an occasional book browser or simply someone who appreciates a lovely café with character, this new cultural destination offers plenty of reasons to visit.
And who knows? You might arrive for the coffee and leave with a new favourite book.
