The Owens sisters are back, and the nostalgia is very real.
Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reunited in Los Angeles on August 31 for the premiere of Practical Magic 2, nearly three decades after they first appeared together in the 1998 cult favourite. The two stars posed side by side on the red carpet, instantly bringing back memories of Sally and Gillian Owens.
Sandra wore Louis Vuitton, while Nicole stepped out in Versace, keeping the premiere polished and glamorous without taking away from the big reunion moment. They were joined by the sequel’s younger cast, including Joey King and Maisie Williams, who are stepping into the next generation of the Owens family.
A New Generation of Owens Women
In Practical Magic 2, Joey King and Maisie Williams play Kylie and Antonia, Sally Owens’ daughters.
That immediately changes the dynamic of the story. The sequel is not simply bringing Sandra and Nicole back for a nostalgia driven reunion. It is also opening up the Owens family story to a younger generation.
Returning cast members Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing are back as Aunt Jet and Aunt Frances, while Lee Pace, Xolo Maridueña and Solly McLeod are among the new additions. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are also involved as producers, with Susanne Bier directing.
The Fashion Had Its Own Little Story
The premiere had plenty of fashion moments too.
Joey King leaned into the film’s dark romantic mood in a dramatic Ilya Migmoon gown, while Maisie Williams wore Margiela.
Maisie has also been having some fun with Sandra Bullock’s fashion history during the press tour. She has worn looks inspired by Sandra’s late 1990s red carpet style, creating a subtle connection between the original film and the new generation now joining the story.
It is a smart little detail because Practical Magic has always had a strong visual identity. The long dresses, layered textures, dark colours and slightly bohemian mood of the original film became part of its appeal. So seeing the sequel’s cast play with that history feels very natural.

The first Practical Magic was not a huge critical success when it came out in 1998, but over the years it developed a loyal fan following.

The Los Angeles premiere followed the film’s London premiere, where Sandra and Nicole also appeared together on the red carpet.
Practical Magic 2 is scheduled to arrive in theatres on September 11, 2026.
