J Balvin and Valentina Ferrer Split After Nearly 10 Years Together

J Balvin and Valentina Ferrer have ended their relationship after nearly a decade together, bringing one of the music world’s longest running celebrity romances to a close.

Ferrer confirmed the breakup on September 16, sharing a personal statement on Instagram Stories in which she explained that she and the Colombian singer had decided to move forward separately. The couple share a five year old son, Río, who remains at the centre of their priorities.

Valentina Ferrer Confirms the Split

Rather than allowing growing speculation around their relationship to continue, Ferrer addressed the situation directly.

She said that after spending many important years together, she and J Balvin, whose real name is José Álvaro Osorio Balvín, had chosen to take separate paths. Ferrer described the separation as a decision made with love and respect, with the wellbeing of their family guiding what comes next.

She also made it clear that both parents intend to continue surrounding Río with love while adjusting to their new family dynamic. Ferrer asked for privacy and understanding as they navigate what she described as a deeply personal period.

At the time the breakup was announced, Balvin had not released his own public statement about the separation.

Their Relationship Began on a Music Video Set

J Balvin and Valentina Ferrer first met in 2017 when she appeared in the music video for his track Sigo Extrañándote.

Interestingly, the video saw the pair portraying a family before they eventually became one in real life. Their relationship developed after the shoot, with the two becoming a couple soon afterwards.

In June 2021, they welcomed their son Río. Over the years, the couple largely kept their family life relatively private despite Balvin’s global music career and Ferrer’s work in modelling and fashion.

Their relationship also became part of Balvin’s creative world. In 2025, he released the song Río, a personal project inspired by his family, with its accompanying video featuring intimate footage of Ferrer and their son.

Fans Had Already Started Asking Questions

The official announcement followed several days of online speculation.

Fans had noticed that Ferrer and Balvin had been appearing together less frequently on social media. Ferrer’s recent posts also attracted attention after she shared content featuring Karol G’s song Alguien Que Me Amaba, leading some followers to wonder whether the lyrics reflected changes in her personal life.

Reports also noted that Ferrer interacted with some comments questioning the status of the relationship. None of that, however, amounted to confirmation until Ferrer chose to address the breakup herself.

The timing made the announcement particularly unexpected. Just days earlier, Ferrer had spoken publicly about what makes a long term relationship work, highlighting communication, respect and companionship while discussing her life with Balvin.

A New Chapter for J Balvin and Valentina Ferrer

After almost ten years together, the relationship may have ended, but Ferrer’s statement suggests that the pair want the transition to remain calm and focused on their son.

There has been no public suggestion of hostility between them, and Ferrer deliberately framed the decision around respect, family and their shared responsibility as parents.

For a couple whose relationship began unexpectedly on a music video set and eventually grew into a family, it marks the end of a significant chapter. What remains clear from Ferrer’s message is that even as they move forward separately, Río will continue to connect their lives.
