Ryan Gosling is officially trading his Ken-era charm for a flaming skull and a seriously intimidating motorcycle!
The Hollywood star is set to headline Marvel Studios’ upcoming Ghost Rider film, marking his long-awaited entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And this time, Gosling is stepping into one of Marvel’s darkest and most fascinating superhero roles.
The announcement was made by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where Gosling surprised fans by appearing onstage alongside director Shawn Levy.
Ryan Gosling Finally Gets His Dream Marvel Role
For Gosling, becoming Ghost Rider is something of a full-circle moment.
The actor has expressed interest in playing the character for years, making the official announcement particularly exciting for fans who have been imagining him in the role.
The upcoming film will be directed by Shawn Levy, best known for Deadpool & Wolverine. The filmmaker has also collaborated with Gosling on the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter, making this another major project for the duo.
Jonathan Tropper is writing the screenplay, although Marvel is keeping the storyline and additional casting details under wraps.
Who Is Ghost Rider?
Unlike Marvel’s more conventional superheroes, Ghost Rider operates in a much darker world of supernatural powers, vengeance and dangerous bargains.
The character’s most famous incarnation, Johnny Blaze, is a motorcycle stunt performer who becomes the Spirit of Vengeance after making a deal with a demonic force.
His transformation into a flaming skeleton, complete with a blazing motorcycle and supernatural chains, has made him one of Marvel’s most visually distinctive characters.
Gosling will follow Nicolas Cage, who portrayed Johnny Blaze in Ghost Rider (2007) and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011).
Actor Gabriel Luna also played a different version of the character, Robbie Reyes, in the television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel’s new Ghost Rider film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on July 28, 2028.
