Shakira’s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour has been packed with high impact stage fashion, but her latest Madrid look brings something especially powerful to the mix.
For the European residency, the singer stepped out in custom Gaurav Gupta Couture, wearing a gold Lunar Wolf Breastplate with a handwoven silk brocade skirt from Banaras, India. The look was styled by Nicolas Bru and created specifically for the scale and drama of Shakira’s live performance.
The She Wolf Becomes Armour
The breastplate is the obvious focal point.
Crafted in brass, it is shaped around a she wolf, a symbol that has long been connected to Shakira’s music and image. Here, the motif becomes almost literal armour, wrapping the body in gold and giving the look a strong sculptural presence.
The piece took around 500 hours of work by a team of 10 artisans, reflecting the kind of intense craftsmanship that sits behind Gupta’s couture practice. His work often uses metal and architectural forms to transform the body into something mythic, and the Lunar Wolf breastplate fits directly into that language.
Banaras Brings in a Softer Counterpoint
What keeps the look from becoming too rigid is the skirt.
The metallic breastplate is paired with a handwoven silk brocade skirt from Banaras, introducing movement, texture and traditional Indian craft into an otherwise futuristic silhouette.
That contrast is what makes the outfit especially interesting.
The top is hard, reflective and almost warrior like. The skirt is fluid, textile driven and rooted in handloom tradition. Together, they create the kind of tension Gupta does particularly well: ancient craft against modern sculpture.
A Look Built for Shakira
The wolf motif also makes this feel more personal than a standard couture stage costume.
Shakira has used the she wolf as a recurring symbol of instinct, independence and feminine power, so turning that idea into wearable metal feels completely in step with her performance identity.
The look also continues an ongoing relationship between Shakira and Gaurav Gupta. She has worn custom pieces by the Indian designer on tour before, including another sculptural Lunar Wolf look created for the opening of the tour.
