One of fashion’s most unexpected collaborations now has a launch date.

Zara will release its first collection with John Galliano on October 1, marking the designer’s first major project since leaving Maison Margiela in 2024. The partnership was first announced in March and is set to run for two years.

Galliano Is Reworking Zara’s Own Archive

Rather than creating a completely separate line from scratch, Galliano has been given access to Zara’s past collections, which he will reinterpret through his own design language.

The idea is to take existing pieces from the Zara archive, deconstruct them, rethink their proportions and details, and turn them into new seasonal designs. Zara has described the project as being guided by a more couture-led approach to construction and authorship.

That makes the collaboration especially interesting. Galliano is known for theatrical fashion, historic references and highly constructed silhouettes, while Zara operates at a completely different scale and price point.

An October 1 Launch During Paris Fashion Week

The timing is hard to ignore.

The collection lands on October 1, right in the middle of Paris Fashion Week, which runs from September 28 to October 6 this season. Zara is not part of the official Paris Fashion Week calendar, but the launch places the brand directly inside one of the busiest fashion conversations of the year.

Full details, including the exact pieces, prices and availability, have not yet been revealed.

But the bigger question is already clear: what does John Galliano look like at Zara scale?

We will find out on October 1.
