Intersection Points on the Dress Form: Where Measurements Start and End

Intersection points are where two dress form landmarks meet. Measurements run between them, and these are the eight points used in pattern drafting.

An intersection point is where two landmark lines on a dress form meet. They matter for one specific reason: measurements are taken from one intersection point to another, so these points are the fixed references that every pattern measurement depends on.

A line alone is not enough to measure from, because a line has length. A point where two lines cross is unambiguous, and that is why pattern drafting works from intersections rather than from the landmarks themselves.

Where the center front line crosses the waistline. The starting point for front bodice and skirt length measurements.

Side seam and waistline

Where the side seam crosses the waistline, which is the reference for side lengths and for the position of the waist at the side of the body.
