Designer Anju Modi opened the PCJ Delhi Couture Week in New Delhi with her “Draupadi” collection on the first day.

The Showstopper: Bollywood actress Tabu, who is also a known name in international movies, opened the show for Anju Modi. The show stopping outfit was saffron, maroon and orange lehenga created with fabrics like chanderi, raw and organic silk.

It featured mukaish and zardozi work along with silver and golden embroideries. The choli featured long sleeves and was a velvet concoction.

The Collection: Traditional Indian
Gender: Menswear & Womenswear
Clothes: On display were opulent lehengas, with multiple kalis, paired with cholis as well as long jackets and achkans. The floor length anarkalis were elaborate in their appeal. Anju Modi showcased some very interestingly cut cholis and blouses. The men’s line also saw anarkalis and long kurtas with gheras, churidaars, jodhpuri pants, tail coat skirts, sherwanis and bandhgalas.
There was a lot of layering involved. Bow ties for both men and women added drama. Ruffled collars, puffly sleeves and exaggerated shoulders also made an appearance on the outfits on display.
Hues: One saw a lot of fiery colors like reds, maroons, oranges and saffrons. White, off white, golden, blue, brown, beige and black also made an appearance.
Fabrics: Rich fabrics like raw silk, organic silk, pure cotton, crushed material, velvet and chanderi were used.
The Embellishments: Golden and silver embroidery, zardozi and mukaish works made the outfits more elaborate. Motifs like animal prints, jaali window, bird cage and horse & elephant carriages gave an interesting dimension to the pieces shown.

Anju Modi’s collection was definitely worthy of opening the show. The ensembles displayed were truly spectacular. The women’s line, especially, was high on the wearability factor.
