The grand finale show on the sixth day at the Aamby Valley India Bridal Fashion Week 2013 in New Delhi was presented by designer Tarun Tahiliani, one of the biggest names in Indian bridal wear. His collection was aptly titled “Marriage, Mystic and Magic”.

The showstopper outfit was an embroidered lehenga in soft pastel hues with crystal embellishments.

The collection showed ensembles like floor skimming jackets worn over dresses, tunics, culottes, short dresses, bell sleeved and high collared blouses, anarkalis, evening gowns. The ball gown styled lehengas were eye catching indeed. The men’s collection saw sherwanis, bandhgalas, jackets, kurtas, pathanis and dhotis. It was interesting to see kanjeevaram sarees being used as draped dhotis on men.
The sari was one of the highpoints of the collection on display. A lot of them were teamed with the cummerbunds/broad belts which are one of the designer’s signature styles. The crushing effect used on the saris lent an ethereal touch. Pre-draped saris, a craft which Tahiliani is a master of, made their presence felt on the ramp.
There was a lot of shimmer and sheer fabrics involved such as tissues. Sparkling crystals and intricate embroidery intertwined to give opulent results. Appliqué work and the use of chains were other highlights of the collection. One also saw the use of traditional craft on the clothes interspersed with zari and zardozi work. There were also a lot of prints used. The use of chikankari work infused a Mughal feel into the clothes showcased. Colors like soft pastels, nudes, pinks, ivories, peaches, reds, beiges, pistachios and golds provided a brilliant spectrum.

The collection was all about being ornate and opulent. It celebrated classy elegance which is timeless – and all the outfits on display emanated this quality. The finale indeed showed the grandeur, which befitted the occasion.
