The adidas Samba has travelled a long way from the football pitch, but its latest stop feels especially personal. For its first collaboration with adidas Originals, Indian sneaker and streetwear retailer VegNonVeg has reworked the Samba Mule through the language of traditional Indian footwear, bringing together one of adidas’ most recognisable silhouettes with references to the jutti, Indian craft and everyday rituals of dressing.

The result feels less like a simple colour update and more like a cultural translation.

The Jutti Influence Is Built Into the Shape

The starting point is the mule itself. Open at the back and easy to slip on, the silhouette naturally connects with India’s long history of open footwear shaped by climate, convenience and the habit of removing shoes before entering homes and sacred spaces.

VegNonVeg pushes that connection further through a pointed toe, which extends the Samba’s familiar T-toe into something closer to the profile of a traditional jutti. The red lining adds another direct reference, while the overall shape stays grounded enough to remain recognisably Samba.

That balance is what makes the design work. It does not try to disguise the sneaker entirely. Instead, it lets two footwear traditions meet somewhere in the middle.

Embroidery Gives the Samba a More Decorative Language

The upper is where the collaboration becomes more expressive.

Intricate leaf embroidery runs across the shoe, with the motif representing growth, community and the culture that VegNonVeg has built around sneakers in India. A gold adidas Trefoil appears almost like a flower within that composition, giving the branding a more ornamental role than usual.

The detailing borrows from the decorative richness associated with Indian juttis, but the finish stays controlled enough to work with contemporary streetwear. That is important. The shoe feels Indian without becoming costume-like.

Even the Insoles Tell a Story

Some of the strongest details are hidden inside.

One insole reads “from VegNonVeg with love,” while the other says “to India and beyond,” making the collaboration feel deliberately outward-looking. The decorative artwork on the insoles again references jutti patterns, while the use of green and red represents the “Veg” and “NonVeg” sides of the retailer’s name.

It is a small detail, but it sums up the project nicely: two opposites brought together through a shared culture.

Black Goes Global, Silver Stays Close to Home

The collaboration arrives in two versions. The black colourway, priced at ₹12,999, will be available globally through selected adidas Consortium retailers, while the silver edition, priced at ₹10,999, is exclusive to VegNonVeg.

The two finishes give the design very different moods. Black keeps the embroidery subtle and lets the gold detailing stand out, while silver pushes the shoe into something brighter and more celebratory.

A Collaboration That Feels Specific, Not Generic

What makes this adidas Originals x VegNonVeg Samba Mule interesting is how clearly it comes from a place.

The shoe is not simply covered in “Indian inspired” decoration. Its open construction, pointed toe, lining, embroidery and even the insole graphics are all tied back to specific ideas around Indian footwear and everyday life.

That specificity is what gives the collaboration its strength.

The Samba may be global, but this version carries a little bit of India with it.
