Etro x Birkenstock Unveils a Boho Footwear Collaboration

Birkenstock has teamed up with Etro for a footwear collaboration that feels instantly recognizable from both sides. The German brand brings its comfort driven silhouettes, while Etro adds paisley, embroidery, fringe and the kind of decorative detailing that has long defined its bohemian identity.

The partnership was first teased during Etro’s Fall Winter 2026 runway show at Milan Fashion Week and has now officially launched with two Birkenstock classics, the Boston clog and the Gizeh sandal.

The Boston Gets Dressed Up

The Boston is having a particularly good year. The clog, first introduced in 1976, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026, and Etro has given it a much more expressive personality for the occasion.

The familiar suede upper is finished with floral embroidery, long fringe and a custom Western inspired buckle. Small Pegasus rivets bring in another Etro signature, while the colour palette stays grounded in taupe and chocolate. Even with all that decoration, the shape is still unmistakably Birkenstock.

That balance is what makes the collaboration work. The Boston does not feel disguised. It simply looks like it has spent a season inside Etro’s wardrobe.

The Gizeh Goes Full Boho

The Gizeh takes the idea even further. Originally introduced in 1983, the thong sandal appears here in premium suede and nappa leather with fringe and rich textural detailing. The result feels less minimal than the classic Gizeh and much more suited to Etro’s relaxed, decorative world.

Both styles retain Birkenstock’s anatomically shaped cork latex footbed, so the collaboration does not sacrifice the comfort that made the originals so popular in the first place. The outsole also gets a subtle makeover, combining Birkenstock’s familiar tread with Etro’s paisley motif.

Boho, But Not Costume

There is a lot happening here, but somehow it does not feel excessive. The muted suede keeps the fringe and embroidery from becoming too theatrical, while the familiar Boston and Gizeh shapes make the shoes easy to understand.

They would work with loose denim, long skirts, oversized knits or even a simple white dress. In other words, the shoes bring enough personality that the rest of the outfit does not have to try very hard.

The Boston is priced at $690, while the Gizeh is $730 on Birkenstock’s US site. The collection launched globally on September 10, with more chapters of the partnership expected in the coming months.
