Dresses for Women: Guide

October 27, 2009 by sarita

Shirt Dress for:

Petite Women

Do's: Wear those with little volume of flares and pleats to add volume to your bottom, or go for A-lines to achieve a taller look. You can wear jersey, full skirt belted or gathered ones also.

You can wear any length, from minis to an inch above or below the knees.

Wear a size that flatters your body and hugs it neither too close nor too loose.

Belted fronts may demarcate your waist and make you appear curvaceous.

Ruffle fronts shirt dresses may also make you appear taller.

Coat style collars may add vertical length to your body. Ruched collars and big collars may draw attention from your small bust size.

Wear sleeveless ones to flaunt your well toned arms. Long sleeves may also show the shape of your arms well.

Denims, khakis, cottons, linens, silk may all suit you and hug your body appropriately. Blacks, grays, whites, navy blues, olive greens can be teamed up with almost everything else in your closet.

Wear small scattered prints or vertical lines to appear taller.

Dont's:

Don't wear too baggy ones or the ones running up-to your mid calves. They might look extremely weird.

Accessories:

A thick patent leather belt may match almost all your shirt-dresses. Adhere to narrow belts.

You may tie a scarf at the neck to accent the collar line.

Wear scarf headbands for a trendy urban look.

A shirt-dress is light and should never be worn with heavier shoes like boots or chunky platform heels. Wear a pair of tights and boots of ankle length or those running up below the knees.

Ballerina flats, low pumps, strappy high heels or open toe sandals may also pair well with your shirt-dresses.

You may keep your legs nude or wear sheer or shimmery stockings.

Carry a large tote bag or slouchy purse for a casual outing and a dressy clutch purse for a complete evening look

A long strand of colored beads may make you appear taller. An opera necklace or rope necklace may come to your rescue. Wear them with a buttoned down shirt-dress. Wear pearls,  gold or silver accessories.

Plus-size Women

The style may look extremely flattering on you. The shirt-dresses with waist-belts may get you closer to hourglass figure.

Wear straight lines and cuts with little or no flare at the bottom. A-line may help you appear taller.
Wear a size that emphasizes the loose silhouette of your shirt dress. This way you can also underplay heavy hips, thighs and chest.

Wear a length that flatters your body. Do not go for ones longer than an inch or two below knees. The same rule holds true for shorter ones. Let the shirt be just an inch lower than knees.

Wear vertical patterns to appear taller and horizontal ones to appear slimmer.

Buttoned up closures may make you appear taller and leaner.

Checks, safaris and nautical prints may also make you appear trendy.

Some of you may like to keep some buttons from the top open to appear sexier. You may also be adding some length to your neck and chest area by doing so.

Warm colors and runching at the sides may also help you appear curvaceous and slimmer.

Shirt-dresses done in a wrap style and belts may also work for you.

Dont's: Be sure to purchase those with belted features. Unbelted shirt dresses can add pounds and look shapeless.

Avoid big and bulky pockets or details at the chest area. They may add volumes to your voluminous bust area and also draw unnecessary attention.

Avoid big collars or they may make your neck and shoulders appear heavier. and draw unnecessary attention towards them.

Avoid stretch material and small prints.

Accessories:

Wear belts but avoid huge ones. They may make you appear shorter by visually cutting you into two.

Wear fetish sandals, boots, pumps, ballerina flats etc. Avoid wearing heavy boots. The simpler your shirt-dress is, the more intricate your shoes can be.

A chunky watch looks great with a shirt-dress any day and anytime.

Carry big chunky handbags. Wear trendy reptile prints and add to the bold look.

Avoid opera necklaces as they may draw attention to your heavy bosoms. Wear long dangler ear rings to appear taller.
