Obese women at higher risk for Osteoporosis

A new study has claimed that women with excessive belly fat are, in fact, at a higher risk for developing osteoporosis. The research was presented at the recently held annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) by Miriam A. Bredella who is a radiologist and an assistant professor. For years, it had been believed that the excess body fat protected against bone loss.

The study has been carried out on 50 per-menopausal women who had a mean BMI of 30.
