MISS Venezuala, Stefania Fernandez, was crowned the prestigious Miss Universe 2009 title in Nassau, Bahamas on Monday, August 24. She competed with 84 other contenders from various parts to the world to win the 58th edition of the annual beauty pageant. Stefania was crowned by Venezualan Dayana Mendoza, who was Miss Universe 2008 Winner.
The 18-year-old Fernandez become the sixth Venezuelan to win the crown. She is of Russian, Ukranian, Galician and Polish parentage. She practices swimming and tennis.
Miss Dominican Republic ,Ada Aimee de la Cruz, was crowned the first runner-up and Miss Kosovo, Gona Dragusha, was crowned the second runner-up.
A 12 member jury, including Actor Dean Cain, supermodel Valeria Mazza and editor-at-large for American Vogue, Andre Leon Talley, adjudged the contest.
Stefania Fernandez was also titled as "Miss Elegance", "Best Body" and "Best Face."
This year, Miss India Ekta Choudhary failed to make it to the top 15 at the Miss Universe, 2009 contest.
