Style Pick – Statement Neckpiece by Laila Singh

May 9, 2015 by swatirao

We keep coming back to what caught our eye in the Jabong Fashion week Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive in 2014. The Designer Laila Singh’s label “Social Butterfly” set a mark through her debut collection called ‘Fight of Fancy’. The black and white patterned constructed silhouettes. Taking inspiration from the surreal nature of peacock plumage the majestic collection was focused on highlighting the thoughtfully and intricately designed jewelry and accessories.

The geometrical shaped, meshed pieces were set with semi-precious stones in tones of sea green, blood red, Egyptian gold, shimmer bronze and black. The earrings, draped chains, palm-bracelets, neckpieces, cuffs, cocktail rings, and bracelets were the highlight of the show.

Our style pick of the day is the show stopper statement neckpiece. We cannot emphasise the intricacy and workmanship of the neckpiece enough.

The pyramid shaped pendant is worn with a set of draped chains. The shimmering dusted bronze colour of the pendant is accentuated with peacock coloured semi-precious stones and is generously filled with dazzling bronze stones. The elaborate floral pattern with hints of the peacock plumage along with hints of geometric highlights definitely left us awe-struck. Not to forget the off-toned dull feather shaped droplets that complete the pendant,

Yes, we hear you! Statement pieces do what they are meant for i.e. make a statement and they do make heads turn too, this one will surely make many heads turn. But our point here is they leave a mark on the viewer’s memory and it becomes difficult to repeat the statement neckpiece often.

Laila smartly styled the neckpiece with a black-white simplistic silhouette making sure that the neck piece did the talking. This is another thing to keep in mind while flaunting that neckpiece. Ladies, yes we understand more is more but sometimes we have to go by the less is more styling. Our style tip today is dedicated to honour statement neckpieces.

Style tip:

  • With expansive neckpieces it is important to be mindful to adorn the neckpiece with simple, constructed and minimalistic silhouettes preferably in colour block tones of no more than two colours.

  • It would be wise to ensure that the colours of your garment do not over power the colour of the pendant.

  • By adorning the pendant with neutral shades of garments, the chances of repeating the neckpiece can be more.

  • The length of the neckpiece and the pendant is proportional to the length of your garment. For example in this case, the ankle length skirt balances and suits the length of the neckpiece.

  • Ditch the other accessories, probably just Swarovski similar toned studs too go along.

  • This statement neckpiece would work great for a gala event, fashion event or even for a dinner party.

  • For our those who abide by casuals, try styling the statement piece with a simple crew neck neutral coloured t- shirt or a georgette beige sheer blouse tucked in along with blue denim or a cigarette fit trouser.

  • For making the pendant less memorable and statelier each time, try different chains but in matching colour tones to go along with the piece.
