Basic Elements of a Bra

Basic Elements of a Bra

Bra Band

It is a band that runs around the torso, under the breasts. The bra band may be a single layer or lined.

Band styles are two, namely, full band and a partial band style.

A Full-band style has a continuous running band that extends around the body. The cups are also set into it. It provides maximum support to your breasts.

A Partial-band style has a band that is attached to the sides of the cups that are separated by a hook.

The bra band also features a set of hook fasteners, typically at the back.

The hooks may provide you an option of two or three different size closure within the same bra. Such adjustable hooks enable adjustment for the vertical position of the breasts.

In some bras the fastener is featured in the front, between the cups.

Some, like sports bra, may be easy pull on style meant to be pulled over the head, with no fasteners as such.

Central Panel

The central panel of a bra lies between the two cups of your bra.

It lays flat against your breastbone.

Cups

Cups accommodate your breasts to give them desired shape, support and control.

Cups mostly have double lining.

However, the lining may also count one or three.

The sections may be lined or unlined.

Lace cups are often lined to reduce scratches.

Padding may also be done to achieve the same effect.

Cups may or may not feature some metal or plastic under wires for shaping.

Shoulder Straps

Shoulder straps help you keep your bra in place, on your body frame.

In most bras the straps are made adjustable by ring-and-slide kind of sliding fasteners, for a better fit. They may be featured at the front or at the back of the strap.

Straps can be made of materials like spendix that are elastic as well as non-stretch fabrics also.

Straps may be wide-set or near-set.

Some of them may be clear, beaded or colored.

Some bras, the strapless bras, may feature no straps at all.

Fabrics: Bras are typically made of fabrics like cotton, polyester or Spandex.

Laces may also be stitched at various parts.
