How to apply Foundation

October 9, 2011 by nidhiseth

The right foundation that complements your skin tone can literally transform your look. Believe it or not, the right choice of foundation followed by the right way to apply foundation can make even a stained, pigmented skin appeal flawless and beautiful. This makes foundation one of the most essential cosmetics of your basic skin care regimen. Apart from its covering property, the foundation applied on the skin also protects it from the extremities of sun, environmental pollutants and wind. It acts as a layer of protection on the skin and saves it from environmental pollutants.

Not many of us know that there is a correct way of how to apply foundation. Therefore, we either end up making the wrong color choices of the foundation or apply it in the wrong way which makes our skin look fake or better known as plastic. Therefore, if you want to know how to apply foundation for yielding its best effect, read on!

Steps on how to apply foundation

how to apply foundationLearn to pick the right foundation

It is simply not possible to pick the right shade by simply having a glace at the bottle of foundation. Therefore, the very first step on the guideline of how to apply foundation is to choose the right makeup foundation that doesn’t make your skin look like a plastic. You will have to sit down and patiently see the colors before taking the plunge of buying any foundation randomly. It is best to apply a few drops of the foundation on your palm and test it against the sunlight. Never look the foundation against the florescent light. Or, you can even match the color with the skin tone of your jaw line to make the right choice.

Step-by-step on how to apply foundation

It is ideal to swipe a thin layer of foundation on your skin with the help of a thick flat-top brush. Take a brush and dip it completely inside the bottle of liquid foundation. Dab or dot the brush on your cheeks, nose, chin, borders of the face and most importantly, your neck.

Apply foundation starting from the nose

Always start dabbing the foundation from the nose and then moving towards the cheeks. While dabbing on the cheeks, proceed with the dabbing on the borders of the cheeks and then finally on the neck. After the cheek is over, don’t forget to dab on the chin.

Dab the leftover

If there is still some foundation left on the brush, dab the same over your lips and below your lips. Always avoid the application of the foundation on the region where you get smile lines. If foundation is applied on the smile lines, your appeal may look fake.

Under the eyes

It is advisable to apply foundation under the eyes as well to conceal the dark circles. Many women, although prefer to apply a concealer to eliminate the starkness of the dark circles, foundation can also be used instead of the former. To learn how to apply the foundation under the eyes, read further.

Always apply a bit of foundation on the edges of the brush and dab it very lightly under the eyes. Remember to apply the foundation towards the corner of the eyes where the dark circles are most acute.  You may apply the foundation over the eyelids as well starting from the lower inner corner.

Dab on the forehead

Remember to dab the foundation left over on the brush on the forehead and then onto the starting of the hairline. At this point of time, your entire face region must have been covered with the foundation, except for the smile line area and other sensitive areas.

Dab under the jawline

A lot many of us forget to dab the foundation on the region under the jawline. If there is foundation left on the brush, make sure to dab the foundation under the jawline for effectively transforming your look. From the jawline proceed towards the neck so to eliminate the unevenness in the tones of face and neck.

Dab all over your face

Once the foundation has been applied all over the requisite regions, simply stipple the brush all over the face so as to distribute the foundation evenly throughout the face. At this time, experts say that the brush should be stippled over the smile line areas as well. This greatly reduces the chances of the occurrence of any creasing on the face.

Stipple in circular motion

Once the foundation has been dabbed all over the face, move the brush in circular motion. This step essentially teaches you how to conceal even the minutest of imperfections and spots on the face with the help of this amazing cosmetic product. Moving the brush in the circular fashion essentially merges the foundation with the natural tone of the skin. Further always make sure to move the brush over the eye lids and around the hairline as well.

Apply cream

Once the foundation has been well merged into the tone of the skin, one may apply any cream over the face.

Let the foundation rest

Many inquisitive women want to know the trick of how to allow the foundation to stay intact on the face throughout the day or night. The answer to this question lies in this step. If the foundation is allowed to stay or set for at least 5 minutes without the application of any other beauty product over the face, the former will easily stick to the face for essentially as long as you want.

Apply a layer of loose powder

It is ideal to apply or dab the layer of loose powder only once the foundation has been properly merged into the skin. Apart from neutral powder, one may also apply colored blushers to match with the color of your dress. However, make sure to apply a thin layer of the blush-on so that it doesn’t make you look artificial.

With this quick tutorial on how to apply foundation correctly, you will always enjoy presenting your best face in front of the world.
