Designer Ritu Beri presented her collection “Punjabi Rock & Roll” on the fourth day of the PCJ Delhi Couture Week 2013 held in New Delhi.

The Collection: Fusion, New Age, Avant Garde
Gender: Menswear, Womenswear and Childrenswear
Feel: The collection took its inspiration from the extravagance and opulence of the Punjabi wedding. It was all about being overly dramatic, over the top and in your face. There was also a lot of Renaissance era style influence, especially with the use of Elizabethan, Georgian and Victorian styles, which saw voluminous pleats, multi tiers and layers, ruffles, falls and flares sashaying down the runway.
Clothes: Ballroom gowns, fish cut as well as kalidar lehengas, jackets, patiala salwars and choga like jackets were displayed in the collection. One saw the use of high collars, which were removable, on many of the outfits.
Hues: Colors like silver, gold, pink, green, yellow, blue, saffron, red, white and purple dominated the ramp.
Fabrics: Silks, velvets, laces, nets, satins, shimmery materials and brocades were used in abundance. Cancan was used in good measure to give volume to the outfits.
Embellishments: Crystal and Swarovski work in white, black and metallic tones shared space with zardozi, gota, sequins and intricate as well as chunky embroidery work.

The collection presented some really interesting designs; however, we don’t know about their practicality and wearability aspect. But, then again, that is the USP of many couture shows –and the designer reaffirmed it as well.
