Lakme Fashion Week Winter- Festive 2013 – Reflections by Manish Malhotra

August 24, 2013 by samriddhi

The first day of the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013 was opened by Manish Malhotra. Bollywood’s favourite designer presented his collection “Reflections” on the ramp.

The Collection: Indian, Fusion

The Gender: Menswear and Womenswear

The Feel: Reflections was an amalgamation of Indian traditional crafts and inspired by the rich colors, rituals and cultures of the country. It also presented some new silhouettes and cuts.

The Clothes: The designer showcased two derivatives that took inspiration from popular silhouettes, the ghagra pant – derived from the asharara and the koti – which is a type of bolero that constitutes typical Rajasthani wear.  Saris, ghagra cholis, lehengas and skirts were appealing to the eye. The men’s line saw kurtas which were paired with dhoti pants, sherwanis and narrow pants.  An interesting touch was the use of bundies over kurtas.

The Hues: The colors seen on the ramp brilliantly captured the shades of Kutch and Rajasthan. There was a play of rainbow tones and bright hues, and one saw mustard, navy, red, pink, burgundy, cream, dark beige, tan, deep and pastel green marking their presence. There was also a smart show of color blocking.

The Fabrics: Rich Indian fabrics like textured silks were seen along with tulle, velvet, chiffon, net and georgette.

The Embellishments: The designer used a lot of mirror work on the outfits. The detailed embroidery, zari and Kashmiri thread work also caught our attention.
